Preventative Care

KEEPING YOUR PET HEALTHY LONG-TERM

Preventative care is the cornerstone of your pet's long-term health and well-being. By taking proactive steps to monitor and maintain your pet's health, you can prevent many common illnesses and conditions before they become serious problems. At our clinic, we emphasize the importance of regular health checks and early intervention, helping to catch potential issues before they affect your pet's quality of life.

Routine preventative care helps ensure that your pet is not only free from illnesses but also thrives in every stage of life. Early detection of health issues, such as dental disease, joint problems, and infections, can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes and overall well-being. Preventative measures also help manage chronic conditions, allowing for a higher quality of life as your pet ages.

By focusing on prevention, you’re not only protecting your pet from harm, but also strengthening your bond by providing them with a healthy, happy life. Regular visits and good habits can prevent the need for costly emergency care and ensure that your pet stays active, comfortable, and joyful for years to come.

How can I support my pet?

Routine Wellness Exams

It is recommended that you take your pet in for a routine examination at least once a year. These appointments allow for vets to monitor your pets health and identitify potential problems before they become serious.

Vaccinations

In order to protect your pet from contagious diseases it is important to make sure that their vaccines are up to date. Be sure to talk to your vet at your pets annual appointment about their vaccine history to see if they need any new immunizations.

Parasite Control

Since parasites that affect your pet can be inside them, on their skin, or haircoat, talk to your Veterinarian about what prevention is best to protect them. We believe that most pets would agree that prevention and treatment is better than the discomfort, pain, and potential long term illnesses caused by these parasite health thieves.

Senior Pet Care

As pets get older they are more at risk of sustaining injuries or getting sick. Senior pet care focuses on making sure that your pet is able to get everything they need as they get older so they can be comfortable and continue to live a happy life.

Baseline/Lifestage Bloodwork

An important piece of your pets health information is keeping baseline, annual, and follow up bloodwork current. This information helps your pets doctor make better informed decisions specific to their individual health and lifestage needs. These current values show what is normal for your pet, their unique trends, and may give insight to potential disease states early before visible signs and symptoms. All of this data could allow for quicker, more positive intervention.

Healthy and Sensible Portioned Meals

Studies show that your pets life could be extended by simply choosing wisely with what and how much to feed them. Many factors like species, breed, age, health status, and lifestyle are taken into account when choosing what is an appropriate meal and frequency of feeding for your pet. Veterinarians learn proper pet nutrition through countless hours of education and continuing education. Discuss with your Veterinarian what nutritional plan is best for your pet.

Exercise and Activity

Much like proper feeding, the right amount and type of exercise and mental stimulation may add loving years to your pets health. Some of the same factors as in nutrition are taken into consideration when your Veterinarian recommends an Activity Plan for your pet. This activity plan may not only include walking, laser chasing, or mouse/ball throwing, but may include hide and seek with a treat, simple backyard agility courses, and mental stimulation toys.
